Mastro begins
Mastro is founded on a promise to bring authentic Italian deli tradition to Canada, under the company name Santa Maria Foods.
1978
 
The San Daniele brand launches
Santa Maria Foods introduces San Daniele alongside Mastro with the launch of San Daniele Mortadella.
1982
 
San Daniele Prosciutto arrives
The now-iconic prosciutto launches — and goes on to become Canada's best-selling prosciutto.
1980s– 1990s
Expansion Era
Mastro & San Daniele grow nationwide
Both grow into retail brands and specialty Italian food platforms across Canada — and enter the U.S. market.

A new home
Santa Maria Foods joins Sofina
Santa Maria Foods is acquired by Sofina Foods.
